The Birthday Wish
by Francis Michael Dattilo, Jr.
Everything was kind of fuzzy. It had something to do with the single birthday wish he had made in his small, homey apartment the night before. It had even more to do with the yellow package of photos he had picked up from the new kid behind the counter at Opal Drug Store.
As he looked at the developed negatives in his warmly lit living room, he was convinced the kid had given him the photos of another Ray Williams. After all, Ray Williams was a common enough name. The pics of the honey-colored blond in sweater and shorts, in evening gown and bathing suit were just too beautiful to believe.
There was a short knock-knock on his apartment door as he rushed to open it.
"Hi, Ray, darling," she greeted him.
