That very morning Gretchen Caine met herself again in the bathroom mirror. The faint rings under her sky blue eyes, the barely visible crow's feet were still there. They had not vanished overnight.
She made it to the office and by noon Gretchen found herself at the Neon Cafe. The other three girls at the table were at least seven years younger than herself.
But the handsome unnamed busboy still had eyes only for her.
By six she was in front of the same mirror and the proof was there
for her own eyes to see: Gretchen Caine was the most beautiful woman in this great big beautiful world.
