Hood's Homecoming
by Francis Michael Dattilo, Jr.
When Crane Crawford hitch-hiked from Omaha to LA at age nineteen, he had on a cheap gabardine suit and was lugging a fifteen dollar suitcase stuffed full of the long green.
When he returned to Omaha from LA at age thirty-six, he was in a thousand
dollar Arman suit inside a twenty grand coffin in the luggage car of the
Coronado Unlimited.
There were three similarly attired men his age to meet him at the station and
they couldn't have been happier.
Double cross works that way.
When you have time for a stiff slug of Christmas cheer, I'll tell you all about it.
Till then, many happy returns, pal.
